Construction on MVP Southgate began in Virginia in March after the project received all necessary permits and authorizations. In June, after the project received all necessary permits and authorizations for construction to start in North Carolina, crews began work in Rockingham County.
Work is now under way at various points across the MVP Southgate project’s 31-mile length in Virginia and North Carolina.
The construction and operation of MVP Southgate is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits throughout the region. During construction, according to an analysis by FTI Consulting, the project is expected to:
- Support nearly 1,000 jobs in Virginia and North Carolina.
- Provide average pay of $64,400.
- Generate more than $10 million in state and local tax revenue.
MVP Southgate is targeted to enter service in 2028, providing the region with critically important access to additional supplies of affordable, reliable and lower-carbon natural gas for homes, businesses and electricity generation.
